Why Did Katelyn Join Out of Bounds?
I have always been drawn to film, whether it was making short films with neighbors or watching SportCenter’s 30 for 30 documentaries every week; I loved creating and watching stories unfold. As I grew, this love stayed true and I began to appreciate the ways you could evoke an emotional response through the use of symbols, angles, sounds, voiceovers, music, and so much more. When this response combines with social justice, there is an incredible opportunity for positive social change. To me, action is inherent in social justice; it is not enough for me to just learn about something, I must act on what I have learned. In the Social Justice Documentary course, the opportunity to be a part of a project where both learning and action are embedded in the work is what drove me to take this course.
